The Unique Identification Authority of India has launched a new Bug Bounty Programme to make the Aadhaar system even more secure.

Through this initiative, the authority is inviting independent cybersecurity experts to find possible vulnerabilities in its digital platforms.

The programme was announced on Wednesday and aims to strengthen the security of Aadhaar-related websites and applications used by millions of people across India.

Cybersecurity Experts Invited to Test Aadhaar Platforms

Under the programme, 20 experienced security researchers and ethical hackers have been selected to closely examine some of UIDAI’s key digital platforms.

These experts will test important digital assets such as the UIDAI official website, the myAadhaar portal, and the Secure QR Code application.

Their task is to identify any potential security weaknesses that could pose risks to the system.

If they find vulnerabilities, they will report them to UIDAI so they can be fixed before they can be exploited.

Rewards Based on Severity of Security Issues

Researchers will evaluate vulnerabilities based on four categories: Critical, High, Medium, and Low risk.

Depending on how serious the issue is, the researchers will receive rewards.

The programme has been launched by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology in partnership with ComOlho IT Private Limited, a cybersecurity solutions provider.

Bug bounty programmes are widely used by major technology companies around the world.

They allow skilled security researchers to help identify weaknesses and improve system security.

Strengthening Aadhaar’s Digital Security

According to UIDAI, the initiative reflects its continuous efforts to keep Aadhaar platforms secure for residents and stakeholders.

The authority already uses multiple security layers such as regular security audits, vulnerability assessments, penetration testing, and continuous monitoring to protect its systems.

With the Bug Bounty Programme, UIDAI hopes to further strengthen its digital infrastructure and stay prepared for future cybersecurity challenges.

Aadhaar Biometric Update Drive in Schools

In a separate initiative, UIDAI recently announced that more than 1.03 lakh schools across India are being covered to help students complete their mandatory biometric updates under Aadhaar.

So far, nearly 1.2 crore children have updated their biometrics directly within their school premises.

This mission-mode drive started in September 2025 after integration with the Unified District Information System for Education Plus platform of the Department of School Education and Literacy.

The effort is aimed at making Aadhaar services easier and more accessible for students across the country.
