Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) has introduced the DigiYatra facility, nearly two months after starting commercial operations.

The airport is now among five in India to adopt the Civil Aviation Ministry’s DigiYatra system.

Passengers at NMIA watched the launch ceremony live on a large screen.

Three travelers even cut the ribbon at the biometric entry points and used the DigiYatra e-gates to mark the occasion.

The launch was part of a statewide rollout connecting five other airports digitally.

What is DigiYatra and How It Works

DigiYatra is a facial recognition-based system that allows passengers to move through airport checkpoints without touching surfaces or handling paper documents.

It uses facial biometrics as a digital ID to verify a passenger’s identity, travel details, and other important information.

The system makes travel faster and more convenient. Benefits include:

Easier access to the airport terminal

Faster check-in and boarding

Paperless travel

One-time registration for domestic flights

The airport ensures that data privacy and security are maintained throughout the process.

How to Sign Up and Use DigiYatra

Passengers can register ahead of time by following these steps:

Download the DigiYatra app from the App Store or Play Store.

Sign up using DigiLocker or Aadhaar ID to get a verified credential.

Tap “Add Credentials” and follow the instructions.

Upload your travel itinerary under “Your Upcoming Travel.”

On the day of the flight:

Scan your face at the DigiYatra gate to verify your identity.

Complete e-gate verification at the Face Pod before security.

Finish verification at the Face Pod after security.

Proceed to the departure gate and board your flight.

Key Takeaway

With DigiYatra, Navi Mumbai International Airport joins a growing network of airports using facial recognition to speed up passenger processing.

The system makes travel smoother, safer, and largely paperless, offering a modern airport experience for domestic travelers.
