The UK is taking major steps to attract top global talent by reimbursing visa fees for select foreign workers.
At the World Economic Forum, Chancellor Rachel Reeves highlighted Britain’s advantages for investors and innovators, saying the country wants to be the destination of choice for talented professionals.
The new plan focuses on trailblazers in deep tech sectors and those joining the most promising UK companies in priority industries.
Selected applicants could have their visa fees reimbursed, making it easier to set up a career or business in Britain.
Which Visas Are Eligible?
Visa fees could be reimbursed for the following:
Global Talent visa – for leaders or potential leaders in areas like AI, cybersecurity, fintech, and gaming. No job offer is required.
Innovator Founder visa – for those who want to start and run an innovative business in the UK.
The idea must be unique and endorsed by an approved body.
High Potential Individual visa – for skilled professionals joining priority sectors.
The UK government is also fast-tracking sponsor licenses for global companies, helping them expand operations quickly in Britain.
Supporting Innovation and Research
Researchers, academics, and entrepreneurs in AI, quantum computing, and semiconductors will benefit the most.
Visa fee reimbursements make it easier for these innovators to relocate to the UK and drive technological progress.
The UK is doubling resources for its Global Talent Taskforce, including private sector recruitment expertise and dedicated support for relocating individuals and companies.
Special focus will be given to international AI talent.
Additionally, new scholarships will be offered to International Mathematical Olympiad gold medallists, with opportunities for internships at top research labs, startups, and university programs.
Global Talent Taskforce
The Global Talent Taskforce is designed to attract the world’s best talent to the UK.
It will support academics, entrepreneurs, investors, engineers, and creatives in relocating, while collaborating with UK offices abroad to build a strong pipeline of global talent.
The initiative also helps international students switch to an Innovator Founder visa without leaving the country, allowing them to start innovative businesses immediately after graduation.
With these initiatives, the UK is positioning itself as a global hub for innovation, research, and entrepreneurship, making it easier than ever for top talent to live, work, and invest in Britain.
