Thick winter fog has once again affected flight operations in Delhi and parts of northern India.

On Sunday, January 18, major airlines including IndiGo, Air India, and Delhi Airport authorities issued advisories warning passengers of possible delays due to sharply reduced visibility.

Early morning fog has caused concern for travellers, and airlines have urged passengers to stay updated on flight status before heading to the airport.

Airline Advisories for Passengers

IndiGo warned that flights to and from Delhi and Hindon airports could be affected.

The airline asked passengers to monitor updates via their website or app and assured that staff are available to provide support.

Air India also issued an advisory late Saturday night, stating that dense fog in northern India could impact flight schedules across its network.

Passengers were advised to check flight timings before travelling.

Delhi Airport Update and Travel Tips

Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) confirmed that Low Visibility Procedures were activated early Sunday morning.

While all operations were currently normal, passengers were advised to contact their airline for updated flight information and to allow extra travel time to the airport.

Airport authorities also reminded travellers that Republic Day security arrangements are in place, and staff will assist passengers at all terminals.

Additionally, one of Delhi Airport’s main runways, 11R/29L, will be closed from mid-February to June for upgrades, including a better Instrument Landing System and a new taxiway.

Flights will operate on the remaining three runways during this period.

Weather Forecast and Safety Advisory

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow alert for Delhi and the NCR on January 18. Morning fog is expected to clear later in the day.

Areas likely to experience moderate to dense fog include North West Delhi, West Delhi, South Delhi, and NCR cities like Faridabad, Gurugram, Noida, and Ghaziabad. Reduced visibility may affect daily travel, so people are advised to be cautious, especially during morning hours.
