North India Faces Freezing Temperatures and Fog

Severe cold and dense fog continue to affect Delhi-NCR. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), these conditions are expected to persist tomorrow, Sunday.

North India is facing intense cold, dense fog, and a cold wave, causing major disruptions in daily life. The IMD has issued alerts for several states in response to this situation.

Cold Wave Alert for North India

The activation of a Western Disturbance has increased the chances of cold wave conditions in several states, including Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Odisha, and parts of Chhattisgarh over the next 1–2 days.

Dense fog will continue in the morning and night hours over Northwest India and Bihar for the next five days.

Cold day conditions may persist in Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and parts of Uttar Pradesh for the next two days.

The cold is expected to gradually decrease in the coming days.

Slight Temperature Rise in Punjab and Haryana

Temperatures in Punjab and Haryana have risen slightly over the past two days, but many places are still below normal. Fog is reducing visibility in the mornings.

Narnaul: 3°C (coldest place)

Ambala: 5.8°C

Hisar: 5.6°C

Karnal: 4.9°C

Rohtak: 5.4°C

Chandigarh: 6°C

Punjab:

Amritsar: 4.4°C (coldest)

Ludhiana: 5.8°C

Patiala: 6.4°C

Bathinda: 5°C

Faridkot: 5.5°C

Gurdaspur: 5°C

Bathinda had temperatures below 3°C on Thursday and Friday.

Rain and Snowfall Predictions

Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand: Light rain and snowfall expected.

Punjab: Isolated rain on January 18, 19, and 22.

Haryana and Chandigarh: Rain on January 19 and 22.

Western Uttar Pradesh: Rain possible on January 22.

Delhi: Relief from cold wave after four days, with temperatures above 4°C on Friday. Yellow fog alert issued for Saturday. Winter may return from January 21.

Uttar Pradesh Faces Cold Winds

Uttar Pradesh is experiencing severe cold due to icy winds.

Bright sunshine occurs during the day, but mornings and evenings remain cold.

Rain is predicted in several areas, but the capital region may see little rain.

Fog will continue in the mornings, while temperatures are expected to rise by 4–6°C in the next 5–6 days due to the Western Disturbance.

Mild Sunshine in Bihar

Bihar is enjoying bright sunshine, bringing slightly milder daytime temperatures.

Mornings and evenings, however, remain cold.

Moderate fog is expected in the Terai region.

The IMD has forecast dry weather for the next seven days and no cold wave warnings have been issued.
