The Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rainfall warning due to a cyclonic circulation forming over the Bay of Bengal.
According to IMD, states like Kerala, Tamil Nadu, parts of Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and southern Odisha may receive heavy rain in the coming days.
Along with rain, IMD has also predicted a drop of 2 to 3 degrees Celsius in temperatures across Delhi-NCR.
Dense fog alerts have been issued for Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and several northeastern states.
IMD has further warned that the cold wave in Bihar may become stronger between November 23 and 24, with minimum temperatures expected to fall by 2–4 degrees Celsius.
Fog is likely to continue in the early morning hours.
Low-Pressure Area Likely to Intensify
The low-pressure system currently over the Malacca and South Andaman Seas is slowly strengthening.
IMD says it is likely to move west-northwest and develop into a depression over the southeast Bay of Bengal by November 24.
Authorities in Andhra Pradesh have also taken note of the situation, as this system may strengthen further over the next 24 hours.
Will It Become Cyclone Senyar?
IMD is closely tracking the weather system related to the potential Cyclone Senyar.
Although the low-pressure area is strengthening, the department says it is still too early to confirm whether it will turn into a cyclone.
For now, it is expected to move toward the Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh coasts.
IMD has said that it will share updates as the system develops.
Cooler Days Ahead for North India
Temperatures in Delhi-NCR had earlier dropped below 10 degrees, but recently remained around 12–13 degrees Celsius.
IMD now expects another fall in temperature across Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, and western Uttar Pradesh in the next four days.
A cyclonic system in the Bay of Bengal may also influence weather conditions in North India, increasing fog and cold.
Cold Wave Deepens in Bihar and UP
Bihar is likely to experience a stronger cold wave over the next 48 hours.
The minimum temperature may fall by 2–4 degrees Celsius from November 24.
Although the slowing westerly winds brought some relief, dense morning fog continues.
IMD has also stated that the weather will remain dry for the next week.
However, westerly winds moving at nearly 25 km/h will create a sharp drop in temperature.
Light rain around November 23–24, caused by the developing cyclonic system, may make the cold even more intense in Bihar, Bengal, Jharkhand, and nearby regions.
