Heavy Rain Expected in Next 24 Hours (Says IMD)

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said that the monsoon remains active across several parts of the country, and many states could witness heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next 24 hours.

The weather department has advised people to stay updated with the latest forecasts and avoid unnecessary travel, especially in areas expected to receive intense rainfall.

Waterlogging, traffic jams, and flooding in low-lying areas are likely in some places.

According to the IMD, very heavy rainfall is possible at isolated places in:

Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim

Meanwhile, heavy rainfall is also expected in several other states and Union Territories, including:

What Does Heavy and Very Heavy Rain Mean?

The IMD classifies rainfall based on the amount received within 24 hours.

Heavy rainfall: Between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm

Very heavy rainfall: Between 115.6 mm and 204.4 mm

Such intense rainfall in a short period can cause waterlogging, overflowing drains, traffic disruptions, and localized flooding.

IMD Advises People to Stay Alert

The weather department has urged people to follow updates issued by the IMD and local authorities.

If your area is experiencing continuous rainfall, avoid stepping out unless necessary.
