Perplexity brings AI-Powered Comet Browser to Smartphones

Perplexity’s AI-powered Comet browser is now available for Android users, bringing its smart, assistant-driven features from desktop to smartphones.

Originally launched on desktops in July, Comet lets Android users access most of the same AI capabilities on the go.

AI Features Designed for Smarter Browsing

Comet is built around Perplexity’s AI search engine, which can now be set as the default search option on Android. One of its standout features is the ability to “talk” to your browser.

Users can ask questions about all open tabs at once or refer to specific tabs, and the assistant will pull the information for them.

The browser also offers a voice mode, letting you speak queries instead of typing, and it can summarize results across multiple tabs, which is especially useful for research-heavy tasks.

Comet can even shop and research on your behalf, showing exactly what actions the assistant is performing in real time.

The Android version also comes with a built-in ad blocker, providing a cleaner browsing experience right from the start.

Upcoming Upgrades and iOS Launch

Perplexity plans to introduce several upgrades soon, including a conversational agent that can search websites and take actions automatically, shortcuts for quick assistant commands, and a full password manager.

The desktop version of Comet Assistant was recently updated to handle complex tasks, like pulling data from websites into spreadsheets.

While the Android version launches first, an iOS version is also on the way. Android was prioritized due to requests from carriers and device makers.

Earlier this year, Perplexity partnered with Motorola to preload its app on some devices, though it’s unclear if this deal includes the new browser.

Competing in the AI Browser Space

AI-powered browsers are becoming increasingly competitive, with players like OpenAI, Opera, and The Browser Company focusing on desktops.

Experts warn that as these tools grow, security challenges will also become more complex.

With Comet on Android, Perplexity aims to be a serious challenger to traditional browsers, offering an AI-first experience that changes how people search, browse, and get things done online.
