Starting October 1, the fee for updating Aadhaar details has been revised for the first time in five years.
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has increased the charges for both demographic and biometric updates.
Demographic updates (name, address, mobile number, date of birth): Fee increased from ₹50 to ₹75.
Biometric updates (fingerprint, photo, iris scan): Fee increased from ₹100 to ₹125.
This revised fee structure will remain in effect until September 30, 2028, after which further changes may be introduced from October 2028.
Relief for Children and Other Charges
Some relaxations have been given for children:
Biometric updates remain free for children aged 5–7 years and 15–17 years.
For children aged 7–15 years, the service will stay free until September 30, 2026.
The cost for home Aadhaar enrollment is unchanged at ₹700. UIDAI explained that the fee increase is necessary to maintain service quality and cover the operational costs of Digital Seva Kendras and other update centers.
Why This Change Matters
The fee hike could create additional financial pressure, especially for people living in rural areas and small towns, where digital services are often limited and more costly.
UIDAI has advised people to update their Aadhaar details on time to avoid issues later.
Those who have not updated their Aadhaar in the last ten years will now need to submit the required documents under the new fee structure.
While this change aims to improve the functioning of India’s digital identity system
and ensure smoother services for Aadhaar holders, it also brings a new financial burden for the public. Therefore, timely updates are important to avoid unexpected expenses.
