Govt Mandates Seat Belts for all Passengers in Rear Seats

New rules are being implemented across the country’s transport system to improve public safety.

Road safety remains a serious concern in India, causing thousands of families to suffer each year.

Recently, a tragic accident involving Cyrus Mistry, who was traveling in a high-end car, highlighted these issues and shook the nation.

Starting from the 1st of this month, Mumbai Police has made it mandatory for all passengers to wear seat belts in the rear seats after boarding their vehicles.

Those who don’t comply will be fined during traffic checks. A public notice about this enforcement was issued by Mumbai Police 15 days prior.

Guidelines for Older Vehicles

Many older vehicles lack rear seat belts, but Mumbai Police has advised owners to have them installed through external retrofitting.

People have been instructed to promptly install rear seat belts in their vehicles at service centers or retrofitting shops.

The campaign is currently ongoing in Delhi

In Delhi, a notification has been issued about this, and rear seat belts are being checked.

This enforcement is particularly strict at expressway entry and exit points, with fines imposed on those who do not follow the rules.

If you haven’t been using your rear seat belt, start using it immediately. Otherwise, you could soon face a fine from traffic police anywhere.
