SBI Revises IMPS Charges from august 15, 2025

State Bank of India (SBI) customers should take note—there is an important update regarding Immediate Payment Service (IMPS) transaction charges.

SBI has announced a revision in its IMPS fee structure, effective from August 15, 2025. The new charges will differ for online and branch-based transactions.

For smaller payments, there is good news: IMPS transactions up to ₹25,000 will remain free for online users.

However, larger online transfers will now attract a small fee. Customers making payments through SBI branches will see no changes in the existing charges.

IMPS is a real-time, 24×7 fund transfer service provided by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), with a transaction limit of up to ₹5 lakh (except for SMS and IVR modes).

Salary account holders in SBI will continue to enjoy full exemption from IMPS fees for online transfers.

New IMPS Charges for Online Transactions

From August 15, 2025, SBI will apply the following charges for online IMPS transactions:

Above ₹25,000 to ₹1,00,000 – ₹2 + GST

Above ₹1,00,000 to ₹2,00,000 – ₹6 + GST

Above ₹2,00,000 to ₹5,00,000 – ₹10 + GST

Earlier, all these transactions were free for online users. This change means that while smaller transfers remain unaffected, higher-value online payments will now carry a nominal fee.

IMPS Charges at SBI Branches

SBI has not revised branch-based IMPS charges. They will remain as follows:

Minimum branch charge – ₹2 + GST

Maximum branch charge – ₹20 + GST

This ensures that customers who prefer in-person banking at SBI branches will not see any cost increase.

IMPS Charges in Other Banks for Comparison

Canara Bank:

No charge for transactions below ₹1,000.

₹1,000 to < ₹10,000 – ₹3 + GST

₹10,000 to < ₹25,000 – ₹5 + GST

₹25,000 to < ₹1,00,000 – ₹8 + GST

₹1,00,000 to < ₹2,00,000 – ₹15 + GST

₹2,00,000 to ₹5,00,000 – ₹20 + GST

Punjab National Bank (PNB)

No charge up to ₹1,000.

₹1,001 to ₹1,00,000 – ₹6 + GST (branch), ₹5 + GST (online)

Above ₹1,00,000 – ₹12 + GST (branch), ₹10 + GST (online)

These revisions by SBI are part of a broader industry trend where banks are differentiating charges between online

and branch transactions while keeping low-value transfers free to encourage digital payments.

Customers making frequent large online transfers should factor in these changes to avoid surprises after August 15, 2025.
