NPCI directs all Banks and 3rd Party apps to Verify Inactive UPI IDs untill 31st Dec

The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) told all banks and apps to delete UPI IDs that haven’t been used for one year.

They gave time until December 31 for this.

So, make sure to turn on your UPI ID before this date. The bank will send you a message or email before turning off your UPI ID.

This step from NPCI will make UPI transactions safer, and it will also stop mistakes in transactions.

What does the new guideline say?

As per the new rules from NPCI, apps and banks will check the UPI ID and linked phone number for users who haven’t used them. If there’s been no activity (no money added or taken) for a year, those IDs will be closed.

Starting from the new year, people won’t be able to use these IDs for transactions.

There will be no scope for wrong transactions

NPCI gave banks and apps until December 31 to find UPI IDs with no activity.

With these new rules, NPCI aims to make sure money isn’t sent to the wrong person and isn’t misused. Some incidents like this have been noticed recently.

Difficulty comes with changing mobile number

Sometimes, people change their phone numbers and forget to turn off the UPI ID connected to the old one.

If the number is inactive for many days, someone else might use it.

However, only the old UPI ID stays connected to this number.

In this case, the chance of making a mistake in transactions goes up a lot.
