People planning to get a new driving license in Bihar may soon have to follow a new rule. The Bihar government is preparing to make driving license issuance more transparent and safer by introducing compulsory driver training.
Under the new system, applicants seeking a Light Motor Vehicle (LMV) driving license will have to submit an original training certificate from a government-registered motor driving school. Without this certificate, a driving license will not be issued.
New Rule to Be Added to Bihar Motor Vehicle Rules
The decision was taken during a meeting of the Bihar Road Safety Council held in Patna on Tuesday.
According to the Transport Department, the government is ready to amend the Bihar Motor Vehicle Rules to officially implement this requirement.
Officials said the main purpose of the rule is to ensure that new drivers receive proper practical training and understand traffic rules, road safety, and responsible driving before getting a license.
High-Level Meeting Held in Patna
The meeting was chaired by Bihar Transport Minister Damodar Rawat and attended by senior officials from several departments, including Transport, Home, Health, Education, Road Construction, and Rural Works.
Representatives from the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and road safety experts also participated in the discussion.
Senior officials reviewed various measures aimed at improving road safety and reducing accidents across the state.
66 Driving Training Institutes Planned Across Bihar
The Transport Department revealed that 41 registered driving training schools are currently operating in Bihar and providing modern driving education.
The government has now approved a total of 66 motor vehicle driving training institutes in the state. While 41 are already functional, the remaining 25 are under construction.
To improve driver awareness, an annual training calendar has also been prepared for all districts. Road safety guidelines have been distributed to help ensure uniform training standards.
Government Focuses on Safer Roads
Transport Minister Damodar Rawat said the government is committed to reducing road accidents and promoting safe traffic practices.
Transport Secretary Raj Kumar added that trained drivers play a key role in road safety. According to him, proper training not only protects the driver but also helps keep other road users safe.
Once the new rule comes into force, anyone applying for an LMV driving license in Bihar will first need to complete training at a registered driving school and obtain the required certificate.
