Japanese Town takes action to Preserve Mount Fuji’s Beauty

A Japanese town has implemented a significant measure to tackle disruptive tourist behavior near a popular view of Mount Fuji.

Since then, poles have been erected in preparation for a 2.5 by 20-meter screen to block the view of Japan’s highest mountain from behind a Lawson convenience store.

Installation of Barrier and Its Purpose

In response to complaints from locals about littering, trespassing, and traffic violations by tourists, officials in Fujikawaguchiko town have installed a large mesh barrier across a road, obstructing the view of Mount Fuji from behind a Lawson convenience store.

Workers have completed the setup of metal poles to support the 2.5 by 20 meters barrier, aiming to deter unruly behavior and protect the scenic spot.

Challenges Faced and Delay in Construction

Despite initial delays in material delivery, construction is now underway. The delay provided additional time for tourists to enjoy the site before the barrier’s installation.

The decision to install the barrier stemmed from concerns about tourists disregarding traffic rules, disrespecting local regulations, and causing inconvenience to residents and businesses.

Efforts to Preserve Cultural and Natural Heritage

The influx of tourists to iconic destinations like Mount Fuji raises concerns about preserving cultural and natural heritage.

In response, authorities are implementing measures such as entry fees for popular sites and online booking systems to manage visitor numbers and ensure safety and environmental sustainability.

By addressing these challenges, Japan aims to maintain its allure as a tourist destination while safeguarding its rich heritage and natural wonders.

The aim is not to discourage tourism but to manage it responsibly, ensuring the protection of local landmarks and the safety of visitors and residents alike.
