Gmail has become an important part of daily life. From bank alerts to shopping offers, hundreds of emails land in the inbox every day. But the problem is that many of these emails are completely useless and slowly fill up your Gmail storage.

Although Gmail gives 15GB of free storage, spam and promotional emails can consume a large part of it over time. Deleting such emails manually again and again can be frustrating.

The good news is that Gmail has a hidden feature that can automatically delete unwanted emails before they even reach your inbox.

Many users still don’t know about this useful trick. If you are also tired of cleaning your inbox regularly, this simple method can save both time and storage space.

Use Gmail Filters to Remove Spam Automatically

Gmail offers a built-in feature called “Filters.” With this feature, you can set rules for specific emails, and Gmail will automatically delete them as soon as they arrive.

One important thing to remember is that this trick works only for new incoming emails, not the old emails already sitting in your inbox.

Here’s the complete step-by-step process.

Step-by-Step Process to Auto Delete Unwanted Emails

Step 1: Open Gmail on Desktop

First, open Gmail on your desktop or laptop browser.

Step 2: Go to Settings

Click on the gear-shaped Settings icon available in the top-right corner of the screen.

Now click on “See all settings.”

Step 3: Open Filters Section

At the top menu, click on “Filters and Blocked Addresses.”

Here you will see the option “Create a new filter.” Click on it.

Choose Which Emails You Want to Delete

After clicking the filter option, Gmail will show different fields where you can set conditions for unwanted emails.

You can also filter emails based on size in KB, MB, or Bytes.

After entering all the details, click on “Create filter.”

Now Gmail will show different action options for those emails.

To automatically remove those emails, simply tick the “Delete it” option.

You will also see other options like:

Skip the Inbox (Archive it)

Mark as read

Star it

Always mark as important

You can choose multiple options together if needed.

Finally, click on “Create filter.”

That’s it. From now on, any email matching your selected words, address, or domain will be deleted automatically before cluttering your inbox.

You Can Edit or Remove Filters Anytime

If you later want to change or remove the filter, simply go back to:
Settings → Filters and Blocked Addresses

From there, you can edit or delete any filter whenever you want.
