India’s aviation network faced major disruptions as heavy rains and thunderstorms hit two key cities—Hyderabad and Delhi.
The sudden change in weather led to flight delays, diversions, and travel advisories, affecting hundreds of passengers and highlighting how monsoon conditions continue to challenge air travel in the country.
Hyderabad airport hit by heavy rain, flights diverted
Hyderabad experienced intense rainfall that badly impacted operations at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport.
Due to poor visibility and unsafe flying conditions, at least nine flights were diverted to other airports. Several incoming flights were also delayed or rerouted as conditions worsened.
One of the affected flights was an IndiGo aircraft carrying Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy.
The flight could not land in Hyderabad and had to be diverted because of rapidly changing weather near the airport.
Airport authorities worked with airlines and air traffic control teams to manage the situation, but the sudden downpour caused widespread operational delays throughout the day.
Delhi faces thunderstorms and flight delays
At the same time, Delhi and the surrounding National Capital Region (NCR) were hit by thunderstorms, gusty winds, and rain.
This unstable weather affected flight operations at Delhi Airport, forcing airlines to adjust schedules and issue travel advisories for passengers.
Both Delhi Airport and IndiGo warned travelers that flights could be delayed or rescheduled due to changing weather conditions.
Passengers were advised to check their flight status before heading to the airport to avoid inconvenience.
While flights continued to operate, many travelers faced longer waiting times due to intermittent weather disruptions.
Why monsoon weather disrupts air travel
Weather-related disruptions are common during India’s monsoon season, especially in major aviation hubs.
Heavy rain, thunderstorms, strong winds, and low visibility can make take-offs and landings risky.
Even though modern aircraft are designed to handle difficult conditions, aviation safety rules require flights to be delayed or diverted when weather falls below safe operating limits.
These small disruptions can quickly spread across the airline network, affecting multiple flights throughout the day.
More delays likely as monsoon strengthens
With the monsoon system active across many parts of India, more such weather disturbances are expected in the coming weeks.
Airlines are likely to continue issuing advisories as conditions change frequently.
Passengers may experience occasional delays, especially during peak rainfall hours.
Experts advise travelers to stay updated on flight schedules, arrive early at airports, and keep in touch with airlines during this period.
As the monsoon intensifies, weather-related disruptions may remain a regular part of air travel in India for some time.
