Passengers travelling through Central Railway stations will soon have to pay more for several popular snacks and food items.

The railway administration has approved revised food prices for stalls operating across stations under Central Railway jurisdiction.

The new rates will come into effect from June 1, 2026.

Officials say the decision was taken because of rising operational costs and increasing food ingredient prices.

At the same time, the railway has also promised better food quality and hygiene standards at stations.

Batata Vada, Pav Bhaji and Samosa Prices Increased

Several commonly purchased snacks will now become more expensive.

Under the revised pricing:

Batata vada will now cost Rs 15

Pav sold separately will cost Rs 5

Veg samosa, veg puff and sabudana vada will cost Rs 20 each

One of Maharashtra’s most popular railway snacks, pav bhaji, will now be available for Rs 50.

Veg pizza has also been priced at Rs 50 under the new menu.

South Indian food items have also seen price revisions:

Masala dosa will cost Rs 35

Two pieces of idli with sambar and chutney will cost Rs 30

Some Food Items Will Remain at Old Prices

While many items are becoming costlier, a few popular snacks will continue to be sold at existing rates.

These include:

Misal pav — Rs 35

Kachori — Rs 15

Dabeli — Rs 20

Railway officials said the revised prices were finalised after reviewing current market conditions and stall operating expenses.

Railways Orders Better Food Quality and Hygiene

Along with the price hike, Central Railway has instructed vendors to improve food quality and maintain cleanliness at station stalls.

The railway administration has also made it mandatory for vendors to display bilingual rate lists so passengers can easily check food prices.

Officials added that regular inspections will now be conducted to monitor:

Food quality

Hygiene standards

Overcharging complaints

The inspections will take place across multiple railway stations to ensure vendors follow the new guidelines properly.

Daily Commuters Likely to Feel the Impact

The new prices are expected to affect both daily commuters and long-distance passengers who regularly buy snacks and meals during train journeys.

With food costs rising across the country, railway stations are also seeing price revisions for the first time in a while.
