Travel between Bihar’s Gaya and Bangkok is set to become easier as IndiGo is launching a new direct international flight service between the two cities.
The airline will start non-stop flights from Gaya to Bangkok from October 26.
The service will operate twice a week, giving passengers a convenient option without the need to take a connecting flight.
Gaya to Bangkok Flights Will Run Twice a Week
The new flights will operate every Monday and Thursday.
The direct connection is expected to make international travel easier for passengers from Bihar and nearby regions.
IndiGo also expects the new route to strengthen religious tourism, cultural connections and economic activity in the state.
Bodh Gaya could be one of the biggest beneficiaries of the new service.
The city is home to the Mahabodhi Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most important Buddhist pilgrimage destinations in the world.
Thousands of Thai and international visitors travel to Bodh Gaya every year.
A direct flight from Gaya to Bangkok could make the journey faster and more convenient for Buddhist pilgrims.
Tourism and Local Businesses Could Get a Boost
The new flight route is not only expected to benefit religious travellers.
Tourists and leisure travellers could also use the direct service to travel between Bihar and Thailand.
More international visitors could mean increased business for hotels, taxis, tour operators, restaurants and other tourism-related services in the region.
For Bihar, the new international connection could therefore bring benefits beyond aviation by supporting the state’s tourism economy.
IndiGo Already Has a Strong India-Thailand Network
The Gaya-Bangkok route will further expand IndiGo’s growing network between India and Thailand.
The airline currently operates more than 140 flights every week between the two countries.
Bangkok already has direct IndiGo connections with Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai and Bhubaneswar.
The airline also operates direct flights to Phuket from Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru and Kolkata. Delhi is also connected directly with Krabi.
IndiGo Remains India’s Biggest Domestic Airline
The new international route comes at a time when India’s aviation sector continues to see strong passenger traffic.
Scheduled domestic airlines carried 729.40 lakh passengers between January and May 2026.
In May alone, domestic airlines carried 153.90 lakh passengers, which was a 9.49% increase compared with April.
IndiGo remained the country’s largest domestic airline in May, with a 64.9% market share.
The Air India Group followed with 25.6%, while Akasa Air held a 5.8% share.
With the new Gaya-Bangkok service, IndiGo is now adding another important international connection that could make Bihar more accessible to travellers from Thailand and other parts of Southeast Asia.
