Bank customers in several parts of India will see bank branch closures between August 25 and August 30, 2026 due to regional festivals and the weekly holiday.
However, this does not mean banking services will completely stop. Mobile banking, internet banking and other digital services will continue to remain available even when physical branches are closed.
The important thing to remember is that bank holidays vary from state to state. A holiday in one state does not necessarily mean banks will be closed across the country.
Bank Holiday List From August 25 To August 30
Here is the state-wise schedule for this week:
August 25, Tuesday
Bank branches will remain closed in Andhra Pradesh and Kerala for First Onam/Milad-i-Sherif, associated with the birthday of Prophet Muhammad.
August 26, Wednesday
Banks will be closed in Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
The closures are linked to Id-e-Milad, Barawafat, Milad-un-Nabi and Thiruvonam, depending on the state.
August 28, Friday
Bank branches will remain closed in Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
The holidays include Raksha Bandhan, Pang-Lhabsol, Friday following Eid-i-Milad-ul-Nabi, Sree Narayana Guru Jayanthi and Ayyankali Jayanthi, depending on the state.
August 30, Sunday
Banks will remain closed across India as Sunday is the weekly holiday.
Will Banks Be Closed On August 29?
August 29, Saturday, will be a working day for bank branches.
This is because August 29 is the fifth Saturday of the month. Banks generally remain open on fifth Saturdays, unlike the second and fourth Saturdays.
So customers who need to visit a branch should be able to do so on August 29, subject to the bank’s regular working hours.
Bank Holidays Are Not The Same Across India
One important point is that these holidays do not mean banks will remain closed continuously from August 25 to August 30 across the country.
The closures depend on the state and the festival being observed there.
For example, banks will remain closed in Kerala for First Onam, but this does not mean bank branches in every other state will also be closed on that day.
Therefore, customers should check the holiday applicable to their particular state before planning a branch visit.
Digital Banking Services Will Continue
Even when physical branches are closed, customers can generally continue using mobile banking and internet banking services.
Services such as online fund transfers, checking account balances and other digital banking facilities can continue without a branch visit.
However, customers who need a service that specifically requires a physical branch should plan their visit according to the holiday schedule.
RBI Has Different Categories Of Bank Holidays
The Reserve Bank of India places holidays under different categories, including:
Holidays under the Negotiable Instruments Act
Holidays under the Negotiable Instruments Act and Real Time Gross Settlement (RTGS)
Holidays related to banks’ closing of accounts
Bank holidays can therefore differ between states and may not apply to every bank or every location.
Key Dates To Remember
August 25: Banks closed in selected states
August 26: Banks closed in several states
August 28: Banks closed in selected states
August 29: Fifth Saturday — banks generally remain open
August 30: Sunday — banks closed nationwide
So, if you have an important branch-related banking task this week, check your state’s holiday schedule first.
For most digital banking needs, however, services are expected to remain available even when branches are shut.
