If you have a post office account, there is some good news for you. The Department of Posts has introduced a new e-KYC facility that allows eligible customers to deposit and withdraw money without filling out any paper forms.
With this update, account holders can enjoy faster and more convenient banking services at branch post offices.
Paperless Deposits and Withdrawals Now Available
Customers who complete e-KYC can deposit up to ₹50,000 into their eligible post office accounts without submitting a pay-in slip.
Savings account holders can also withdraw up to ₹20,000 without any paperwork. This makes routine transactions quicker and easier.
However, transactions above these limits will still require the usual documents and approval from the concerned post office.
Which Account Holders Can Use This Facility?
The new e-KYC service is available for:
Post Office Savings Accounts (POSA)
Recurring Deposit (RD) Accounts
Sukanya Samriddhi Accounts (SSA)
After completing e-KYC, customers can carry out eligible transactions at any branch post office.
The Postal Department has also allowed Aadhaar-authenticated customers to access services for eligible accounts at post offices other than their home branch, making banking more flexible.
Mobile Number Linking Becomes Important
The department has announced that from September 1, 2026, accounts not linked with a mobile number will not be able to carry out transactions through the DREAM app.
Customers are advised to update their mobile numbers as soon as possible to avoid any disruption in services.
e-KYC Available Only for Single Accounts
According to the Postal Department, this facility is currently available only for single accounts.
Joint accounts and minor accounts are not covered under the e-KYC system.
To use the service, both the customer’s Aadhaar number and mobile number must be linked with the Customer Information File (CIF).
Aadhaar-Based Verification for Faster Services
After receiving the customer’s digital consent, the Postal Department will fetch details such as name, date of birth, address, and other information from the Aadhaar database to complete the e-KYC process.
To protect customer privacy, all post offices have been instructed to mask Aadhaar numbers in documents and records.
Post Offices Expanding Services Across India
The Department of Posts is also working to improve customer convenience. Earlier, Minister of State for Communications Chandrasekhar Pemmasani said that 24-hour services have been started at 214 post offices.
In addition, working hours at around 4,000 post offices have been extended from seven hours to as much as 24 hours in selected locations, helping customers access services more easily.
