Air Kerala, a new budget airline, has received approval from the Civil Aviation Ministry to operate in the country.
The airline plans to commence its services in 2025 after obtaining the necessary clearance from the government.
Initially, Air Kerala will operate with three ATR 72-600 aircraft, focusing on connecting small cities in Tier 2 and Tier 3 regions of the country.
The announcement of receiving the NOC was made during a press conference held in Dubai by Air Kerala.
Air Kerala gets support from 2 Dubai businessmen
Air Kerala, supported by Dubai-based businessmen Afi Ahmed and Ayub Kallada, will become the first regional airline based in India’s southernmost state.
According to a report in Khaleej Times, the airline, registered as Zettfly Aviation, has received permission to operate air transport services for three years.
Afi Ahmed expressed satisfaction, stating that the achievement is the culmination of years of hard work. Despite initial skepticism, they have successfully turned their vision into reality.
Air Kerala to offer affordable aviation services to small cities
Last year, Afi Ahmed, founder of Smart Travels Agency, purchased the domain name airkerala.com for 10 lakh dirhams.
The Kerala government initially conceived Air Kerala in 2005. According to reports, the airline aims to commence operations next year.
Air Kerala intends to offer economical air travel services to smaller cities. Ayub Kallada mentioned plans to acquire an Air Operator Certificate (AOC) through aircraft purchases and leasing efforts.
International flights will also commence once the fleet reaches 20 aircraft
Before initiating international flights, Air Kerala must first operate regional flights.
The airline plans to begin international flights after expanding its fleet to 20 aircraft.
Afi Ahmed mentioned that their inaugural international flight will be to Dubai, followed by the launch of services on additional routes.
Air Kerala is set to make an initial investment of approximately 11 crore dirhams.
