Malawi President Lazarus Chakwera announced on February 9th that the country has waived visa requirements for travelers from 79 nations, marking a significant move to bolster its tourism sector.

Homeland Security Minister Ken Zikhałe issued a gazette notice on February 7th, confirming the visa exemption.

The decision aims to stimulate tourism, which ranks third in foreign currency generation after tobacco and tea exports.

Beneficiaries and Exceptions:

Visitors from countries like the United States, Britain, France, China, Russia, and members of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) will benefit from the visa waiver.

However, countries maintaining visa requirements for Malawian citizens won’t be included in the exemption.

Boosting Investment and Ease of Travel:

Tourism Minister Vera Kamtukule highlighted how cumbersome visa procedures had impeded growth, emphasizing the importance of attracting investments in agriculture, tourism, and mining.

By eliminating visa requirements for key markets globally, Malawi aims to signal its openness for business.

facilitating easier travel for visitors.

Tourist Attractions:

Malawi boasts Africa’s third-largest freshwater lake, Lake Malawi, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its pristine waters, sandy beaches,

and diverse marine and wildlife, including elephants, hippos, and crocodiles.
