The Karnataka government has introduced a new QR code-based complaint system to make it easier for people to report issues related to food and medicines.
The initiative has been launched by the state’s Food Safety and Drug Administration Department with support from the Center for e-Governance.
People can simply scan a QR code to register their complaints. Once a complaint is submitted, the entire process, from investigation to monitoring and resolution, will be handled online for faster action.
Complaints You Can Report
The new system allows people to report several medicine-related issues, including:
Side effects caused by medicines
Overcharging for medicines
Problems with pharmacy services
Sale of expired medicines
Other violations related to drug safety and regulations
It also accepts complaints related to food safety. Consumers can report issues at hotels, restaurants, street food stalls, and other food outlets.
Complaints can include poor hygiene, unhygienic kitchens, use of artificial food colours, and other food safety concerns.
Why the New System Matters
According to the department, the QR code-based system will improve transparency and help officials respond to complaints more quickly.
Since the entire process is online, people will also be able to track the progress of their complaints more easily.
The department has also launched digital services such as e-mark cards for D-Pharma students and e-certificates for D-Pharmacy holders to make services more convenient.
How to File a Complaint
People can continue to report food safety or adulteration complaints through the national Food Safety Connect portal.
They can also contact the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) by calling its toll-free helpline 1800-112-100 or sending a message on WhatsApp at 9868686868.
