Bharti Airtel has launched a new premium service called “Priority Postpaid” that promises faster and more reliable 5G connectivity, especially in crowded areas where networks often slow down.
The company says the service uses advanced 5G network slicing technology to give postpaid users a smoother internet experience during heavy traffic conditions.
With this launch, Airtel claims it has become the first telecom company in India to commercially offer 5G network slicing services for consumers.
What Is 5G Network Slicing?
5G network slicing is a technology that allows telecom companies to create dedicated portions of network capacity for specific users or services.
In simple terms, Airtel can now prioritise network resources for Priority Postpaid users so they get more stable connectivity even when many people are using the network at the same time.
This could be especially useful for:
Office video calls
Online meetings
HD streaming
Gaming
Crowded public events
Busy metro stations and airports
Airtel says the service is designed for users who depend on uninterrupted internet access throughout the day.
Airtel Says the Service Focuses on Better User Experience
According to Airtel MD and CEO Shashwat Sharma, the company wants to offer practical innovations that improve customer experience instead of only increasing data speeds.
He said the new Priority Postpaid service aims to ensure users continue getting smooth connectivity while:
Attending work calls
Streaming content
Using apps in crowded places
Industry experts believe network slicing is one of the most important commercial uses of standalone 5G technology because it allows telecom operators to customise network quality for different types of users.
Plans, Pricing and Availability
Airtel said the Priority service will be available across its postpaid plans.
Pricing starts at:
Rs 449 plus GST for individual users
Up to Rs 1,749 plus GST for family plans
Existing Airtel postpaid customers will automatically receive the service.
Prepaid users who want the feature can switch to eligible postpaid plans through:
The Airtel Thanks app
Airtel retail stores
Which Phones Will Support the Service?
The new feature will work only on compatible smartphones that support standalone 5G and have updated software.
Airtel has also upgraded its 5G infrastructure to support advanced slicing technology and better network management for premium users.
Similar 5G slicing services have already been introduced in countries like:
United States
Singapore
United Kingdom
Malaysia
With increasing competition in India’s telecom market, Airtel appears to be focusing on premium network quality and differentiated services rather than only competing on pricing.
