The Uttar Pradesh government has announced a major financial boost for veterinary students in the state.
Students pursuing veterinary internships will now receive a monthly stipend of Rs 12,000 instead of Rs 4,000.
The decision was approved during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
The move is expected to provide much-needed financial support to students and encourage more young people to pursue careers in veterinary science.
Big Relief for Veterinary Students
The internship allowance has been increased three times from the earlier amount, making it one of the biggest hikes announced for veterinary students in the state.
According to Dairy Development and Animal Husbandry Minister Dharampal Singh, veterinarians play a very important role in Uttar Pradesh because the state has:
A large population
A huge livestock base
Vast rural and agricultural regions
He said veterinarians are essential for:
Protecting animal health
Controlling animal diseases
Preventing epidemics
Improving livestock breeds
The government believes better financial support during internships will motivate students and strengthen the veterinary sector.
Which Students Will Benefit?
The increased stipend will benefit students studying at:
Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Veterinary Science University and Cow Research Institute
Acharya Narendra Dev University of Agriculture and Technology
Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel University of Agriculture and Technology
Around 300 approved veterinary students across these universities are expected to directly benefit from the revised internship allowance.
Why the Government Increased the Stipend
The Uttar Pradesh government reportedly studied internship allowances offered in states like:
Haryana
Karnataka
Kerala
After comparing the higher stipends available in those states, the government decided to revise the amount in Uttar Pradesh as well.
Officials say the main objective is to:
Improve student morale
Increase interest in veterinary education
Encourage professional dedication
Promote equality within the profession
Government to Spend Rs 4.20 Crore Extra Every Year
With the revised stipend, the state government will face an additional annual financial burden of around Rs 4.20 crore.
However, officials said the amount will be managed through the non-salary component of government grants already provided to universities.
The government believes the increased financial support will help students focus better on training and practical learning during internships without worrying as much about expenses.
The decision is being seen as an important step toward strengthening veterinary education and animal healthcare services in Uttar Pradesh.
