SBI Card has announced changes to its late payment charges.
The new rules came into effect from May 1, 2026.
The update mainly affects customers with smaller outstanding dues.
Other charges remain the same.
New Late Payment Charges Explained
Under the revised structure, customers will now pay lower charges for smaller unpaid amounts.
If your outstanding bill is between Rs 100 and Rs 500, the late fee will be Rs 100.
For dues between Rs 500 and Rs 1,000, the charge will be Rs 500.
For amounts above Rs 1,000, the charges remain unchanged from the earlier structure.
This change is aimed at making penalties more reasonable for low-value dues.
How It Was Earlier
Earlier, there was no charge for dues up to Rs 500.
But if your outstanding amount crossed Rs 500, the late fee jumped to Rs 400.
This often felt steep for small delays.
Now, the new system introduces smaller, gradual charges instead of a sudden jump.
Full Breakdown of Revised Charges
Here is how the updated late payment charges look:
Rs 0 to Rs 100: No charge
Rs 100 to Rs 500: Rs 100
Rs 500 to Rs 1,000: Rs 500
Rs 1,000 to Rs 10,000: Rs 750
Rs 10,000 to Rs 25,000: Rs 950
Rs 25,000 to Rs 50,000: Rs 1,100
Above Rs 50,000: Rs 1,300
This revised structure adds more clarity and reduces sudden high penalties.
Big Change for BPCL SBI Credit Card Users
There is also an important update for BPCL SBI Credit Card users.
The annual fee of Rs 499 will now be waived only if you spend Rs 1 lakh in a year.
Earlier, the fee was reversed after spending just Rs 50,000.
This means users now need to spend more to avoid the annual fee.
What About Annual and Renewal Fees?
SBI Card charges both an annual fee and a renewal fee.
The annual fee is a one-time charge when you get the card. It can range from Rs 0 to Rs 9,999, depending on the card type.
The renewal fee is charged every year and can also range from Rs 0 to Rs 9,999.
These charges vary based on the card variant and are clearly communicated when you apply.
How These Charges Are Applied
All applicable fees are added directly to your credit card account.
They appear in your monthly statement in the billing cycle when they are charged.
If you have add-on cards, there may be separate fees for those as well.
The Bottom Line
The new rules bring some relief for customers with smaller dues, thanks to lower late payment charges.
However, BPCL SBI card users will need to spend more to get their annual fee waived.
Overall, it’s important to stay aware of these changes and pay your bills on time to avoid extra charges.
