Investors and traders will get fewer chances to trade next week. On Friday, May 1, 2026, the Indian stock market will remain closed. Both National Stock Exchange (NSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) will not operate on this day.
This means no buying or selling of shares will take place. Activities like derivatives trading and securities lending and borrowing (SLB) will also remain suspended.
If you are active in the market, it is important to plan your trades in advance to avoid any last-minute issues.
Why Is the Stock Market Closed?
The stock market will be shut on May 1 due to Maharashtra Day. This day marks the formation of the state of Maharashtra and is celebrated every year.
Since both NSE and BSE are based in Mumbai, trading remains completely closed on this occasion.
MCX Trading Will Be Partially Open
While the stock market will be fully closed, the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) will follow a different schedule.
Trading on MCX will be closed during the morning session from 9 AM to 5 PM. However, the evening session will run as usual from 5 PM to 11:55 PM.
