Rising tensions in the Middle East and sudden flight route closures have created serious problems for foreign travelers living in the UAE. Many people are now stuck with limited options to return home.

Adding to the trouble, the temporary visa overstay exemption ended on March 31, 2026. As a result, stranded travelers are now being fined 50 dirhams per day due to flight cancellations and delays.

Governments Step In to Rescue Citizens

As the situation worsened, several countries including India, Germany, Ireland, and Australia quickly started emergency operations to bring their citizens back safely.

The Indian government has become especially active. Officials are collecting details through embassies in Abu Dhabi and consulates in Dubai.

Airlines like Air India and IndiGo have adjusted flight schedules to find safer routes and help Indians return home.

Authorities are also working to provide emergency visas and legal support to those who have no valid stay options left.

Special Flights and Priority Evacuations

Countries like Germany and Australia have also taken strong steps. Germany is working with Lufthansa and Emirates to arrange special evacuation flights.

At the same time, Australia has restarted direct flights from Dubai and Abu Dhabi, giving priority to elderly passengers, pregnant women, and children. The goal is to reduce financial losses and ensure safe return for citizens.

Growing Problems for Stranded Travelers

Since March 31, the situation has become more difficult. Travelers who overstay their visas now face daily fines of around ₹1,100 to ₹1,200.

With limited flights and restricted airspace, people are unable to leave easily. On top of that, rising hotel costs are making it even harder to manage expenses.

Many travelers are stuck due to circumstances beyond their control, but still face the risk of penalties and legal action.

Diplomatic Efforts to Ease the Crisis

Some countries are taking a diplomatic route to support their citizens. France is in constant talks with UAE authorities to prevent unfair fines for stranded travelers.

Türkiye has provided financial and logistical help through its embassy to assist those running out of resources.

Meanwhile, Denmark has advised its citizens to stay in touch with their embassy and follow official instructions carefully to avoid legal trouble.
