India is seeing a big shift in the way cooking gas is used at home.

Due to the recent LPG shortage linked to the US-Iran tensions, many households are now moving towards piped natural gas (PNG).

Instead of traditional red LPG cylinders, yellow gas pipelines are becoming a common sight in homes.

This change shows how India’s gas distribution system is slowly transforming.

PNG Connections Growing Rapidly

The government and gas companies are working together to expand PNG connections across the country.

In just the past one month, around 8 lakh (800,000) new PNG connections have been added.

This is a record increase and shows how fast people are adopting this system.

At the same time, the government is encouraging people who already have PNG connections to give up their LPG cylinders.

So far, more than 16,000 people have surrendered their LPG connections.

To make this process easier, a special online portal has been launched.

It even features a “Hall of Fame” to recognize people who voluntarily switch to PNG.

Why PNG is Becoming Popular

The biggest reason behind PNG’s rising popularity is the shortage of LPG caused by global tensions.

Apart from that, PNG offers continuous gas supply through pipelines, so there is no need to book or wait for cylinders.

This makes it more convenient for daily use.

According to a report by The Times of India, the expansion of piped gas is currently at its fastest pace ever.

Right now, 100% of household PNG demand and about 80% of commercial demand are being met through pipelines.

Meanwhile, around 50 lakh LPG cylinders are still being supplied regularly.

Technology Making Gas Delivery Better

Technology is also helping improve the system and reduce fraud.

Online booking of LPG cylinders has reached 95%, making the process faster and more transparent.

Another major improvement is in delivery verification.

Earlier, only 53% of deliveries used authentication codes, but now this number has increased to 90%.

This ensures that cylinders are delivered to the correct customers and reduces chances of black marketing.

What This Means for the Future

With faster PNG expansion and better technology, India’s cooking gas system is changing quickly.

In the coming years, more homes may switch to piped gas, reducing dependence on LPG cylinders and making daily life more convenient.
