Several major banks have revised their ATM usage rules, and these new changes will come into effect from April 1, 2026, with the start of the new financial year.

HDFC Bank, Punjab National Bank (PNB), and Bandhan Bank have updated their rules related to free transaction limits, charges, and cash withdrawals. These changes will directly affect bank customers.

HDFC Bank: UPI ATM Withdrawals Now Included in Free Limit

HDFC Bank has made an important change in its ATM rules. Cardless cash withdrawals made through UPI at ATMs will now be counted within the free transaction limit.

This means that if you withdraw cash using UPI, it will now be treated like a regular ATM transaction and counted in your monthly free usage limit.

Once the free transaction limit is exhausted, customers will have to pay ₹23 per transaction, plus applicable taxes.

At present, HDFC customers get:

5 free transactions at HDFC Bank ATMs

At other bank ATMs:

3 free transactions in metro cities

5 free transactions in non-metro cities

PNB Reduced Daily Cash Withdrawal Limit

Punjab National Bank (PNB) has also made changes by reducing the daily cash withdrawal limit for some debit cards.

However, this limit may differ depending on the type of debit card. Customers are advised to check the updated withdrawal limit for their specific card.

Bandhan Bank: Changes in Free ATM Transactions

Bandhan Bank has also revised its ATM transaction rules.

Customers will now get 5 free financial transactions per month at Bandhan Bank ATMs.

Non-financial transactions, such as balance enquiry or mini statement checks, will continue to remain unlimited at the bank’s own ATMs.

At other banks’ ATMs, customers will get:

3 free transactions in metro cities

5 free transactions in non-metro cities

After the free limit is used, the charges will be:

₹23 for financial transactions

₹10 for non-financial transactions

Important Things to Keep in Mind

After these new rules come into effect, customers should carefully keep track of their monthly free ATM transaction limit.

This will help avoid extra charges and unnecessary fees while using ATMs.
