Keeping passenger safety and convenience in mind, Indian Railways has introduced an important new rule. Now, QR code-based ID cards are mandatory for all catering staff and vendors on trains.

The main goal of this step is to stop unauthorized vendors and ensure that passengers receive safe and reliable services.

Under this system, every authorized vendor, helper, and catering staff member will get an ID card with a QR code.

When passengers scan this code, they can see complete details of the person, such as their name, Aadhaar number, medical fitness, and police verification. This makes it easier to confirm whether the person selling food or goods is genuine.

QR Codes on Food and Better Tracking

Not only vendors, but food packets will also now have QR codes. By scanning these codes, passengers can check where the food was prepared and at what time. This will help improve food quality and make it easier to track its source.

Strict Action Against Unauthorized Vendors

As per railway rules, selling items without permission on trains or railway premises is a crime. It is punishable under Section 144 of the Railways Act, 1989.

To control this, Indian Railways and the Railway Protection Force (RPF) already carry out regular checks and special drives. With the new QR code system, monitoring will become even stricter.

Focus on Food Quality and Hygiene

Indian Railways is also focusing on improving food quality and cleanliness. Food is now prepared in designated base kitchens with modern facilities.

CCTV cameras have been installed in these kitchens to monitor food preparation. In addition, only branded and trusted raw materials are being used for cooking.

FSSAI Certification and Regular Checks

Food safety rules have also been strengthened. FSSAI certification is now mandatory to ensure proper food standards. Along with this, food safety supervisors are being appointed,

and regular sampling, surprise inspections, and third-party audits are being carried out to maintain quality.

Onboard Monitoring and Staff Training

To ensure better service, IRCTC supervisors are deployed on trains to monitor catering services. Catering staff are also given regular training, focusing on behavior, service quality, hygiene, and communication skills.
