The first morning of the new year has brought intense cold to Uttar Pradesh and nearby regions. People are shivering due to freezing temperatures, while dense fog is disrupting daily life.

Cold winds have made the weather feel even harsher. The Meteorological Department has issued warnings for January 1, highlighting the combined impact of fog and rain in several states.

Rain and Fog Alert in Uttar Pradesh

According to the Meteorological Department, light to moderate rain is expected in many districts of western Uttar Pradesh on January 1, 2026.

Weather conditions may change in Meerut, Ghaziabad, Noida, Hapur, Baghpat, Bulandshahr, Saharanpur, Muzaffarnagar, Shamli, Moradabad, Bijnor, Rampur, Amroha, and nearby areas. The rain is likely to increase the cold further.

In contrast, eastern Uttar Pradesh may not receive rain but will continue to face dense to very dense fog. The department has warned that visibility could remain extremely low until January 5, which may severely affect road and rail traffic.

Rain and Snowfall Expected in Uttarakhand

The new year has also begun with changing weather in Uttarakhand’s hilly regions. On January 1 and 2, light rain and snowfall are likely at isolated places in districts such as Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Bageshwar,

and Pithoragarh, especially in higher altitude areas. After this, dense fog is expected to cover some parts of the state between January 3 and January 5.

Dense Fog to Grip Delhi-NCR

There is no relief for residents of Delhi-NCR either. The Meteorological Department has predicted dense fog across the entire NCR region, including North Delhi, West Delhi, Gurugram, Faridabad, and Ghaziabad, from January 1 to January 5.

Extremely low visibility during early mornings and nights may cause problems, and drivers have been advised to remain cautious.

Heavy Rain Alerts Issued by IMD

The IMD has issued multiple alerts warning of heavy rain over the next four days in several states.

These warnings also mention the possibility of severe cold conditions. In some regions, a high alert has been issued due to the expected intensity of rainfall.

Weather Forecast for Other Parts of India

According to the Meteorological Department’s forecast from January 1 to January 5, rain and snowfall are expected in Jammu and Kashmir, Arunachal Pradesh, and Sikkim.

Meanwhile, in South India, parts of Tamil Nadu may experience heavy to very heavy rainfall on January 1, 2, and 3.
