Truecaller has introduced a new voicemail feature for Android users in India, aimed at making it easier to manage missed calls.

The feature lets callers leave voice messages when a call goes unanswered, and users can read AI-generated transcriptions of those messages directly in the app.

To use the service, call forwarding must be enabled on your mobile number.

Truecaller says this helps users quickly understand the purpose of missed calls without listening to long recordings or immediately returning calls.

Smart Voicemail with AI Transcriptions and Privacy

The voicemail feature records incoming messages and converts them into readable text in a dedicated Voicemail tab.

Users need the latest Truecaller app, and transcriptions may take a few moments to appear.

The feature also offers:

Adjustable playback speed to listen faster or slower

Built-in spam filtering to separate unwanted calls

AI transcription in 12 Indian languages, including Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Gujarati, Nepali, Punjabi, Sanskrit, and Urdu

Truecaller emphasizes privacy and localisation, storing all recordings on the user’s device to maintain control over personal data.

Smart call categorisation helps users prioritise important messages efficiently.

Premium Users and Global Plans

Truecaller Premium subscribers can enjoy enhanced call handling through the Truecaller Assistant.

This feature can answer calls, interact with callers, provide personalised greetings, and handle calls more efficiently.

Currently, the voicemail feature is available only in India, but Truecaller plans to roll it out to other countries after assessing feedback and performance.

Summary

Truecaller’s new voicemail feature provides AI-powered transcriptions of missed-call messages in 12 Indian languages, along with spam filtering, adjustable playback, and on-device storage.

Premium users get advanced call management via the Truecaller Assistant, with plans for a global rollout in the future.
