If you’re ordering food online during the festive season, expect to pay a little more. Both Zomato and Swiggy have raised their platform fees to ₹10 per order.
Zomato was the first to announce the increase, and Swiggy quickly followed suit by raising its fee as well.
Clarification from Zomato
As a listed company, Zomato needed to respond. On October 24, Zomato confirmed in a regulatory filing that the news was accurate.
They explained that the information came from their own mobile app, which is publicly available.
Zomato Confirms Fee Hike
On October 23, 2024, the stock exchange asked Zomato to clarify media reports about the fee hike due to a surge in online food delivery during the festive season.
Since Zomato is a publicly listed company, this clarification was required.
On October 24, 2024, Zomato confirmed the increase in a regulatory filing, stating that the information wasn’t a rumor, as it was visible on their mobile app.
Fee Increase Across Cities
Zomato mentioned that it increased the platform fee in some cities on October 23, 2024, and this is a routine decision made from time to time.
The company explained that platform fees might differ between cities. Initially, Zomato charged ₹6 per order, but now it’s ₹10. Similarly, Swiggy raised its fee from ₹7 to ₹10 per order.
Zomato noted that this fee hike is a response to the rise in orders during the festive season and will help cover their operational costs.
New Fees for Zomato and Swiggy
Previously, Zomato charged Rs 6 per order, and now it has increased to Rs 10. Swiggy’s fee was Rs 7 and has also been raised to Rs 10 per order.
Zomato explained that this decision was made to manage the increased number of orders during the festive season. The additional fee will help the company cover its expenses.
