Indian software company Zoho has asked most of its employees to work from home for two weeks starting March 16.

The decision was shared with staff through an internal communication.

The company said the move is meant to help employees avoid travel difficulties and ensure business operations continue smoothly during the current disruptions linked to LPG supply issues in several cities.

Temporary Work-From-Home Plan

According to the company’s message, the remote work period will last for about two weeks.

During this time, most employees will perform their duties from home instead of coming to the office.

However, the policy will not apply to everyone.

Employees who work in critical roles, such as data centre management, security, and essential facility operations, may still need to work from office locations.

These teams are required on-site to keep important systems running without interruption.

LPG Shortage Affecting Office Operations

The decision comes at a time when many offices are facing operational challenges due to the shortage of commercial LPG cylinders.

Large corporate campuses often rely on cooking gas to run cafeterias and prepare meals for employees.

With LPG supplies limited in some cities, many workplace cafeterias are struggling to operate normally.

To avoid inconvenience for staff and reduce pressure on office facilities, companies like Zoho are temporarily shifting employees to remote work.

Other IT Companies Taking Similar Steps

Zoho is not the only technology company making adjustments.

Several other IT firms have also introduced short-term changes to handle the situation.

Some companies have asked employees to bring food from home because cafeteria services are limited.

Others have reduced cafeteria operations due to the shortage of cooking gas.

A few organizations have also allowed temporary work-from-home options to maintain smooth daily operations.

Flexible Work Culture Helps the Tech Industry

The situation also highlights how flexible work policies have become in the technology sector.

Since the global shift toward remote work in recent years, many tech companies have built systems that allow employees to work from home when needed.

This flexibility helps businesses continue operating even during disruptions related to infrastructure, transport, or supply shortages.

What Could Happen Next

For now, Zoho’s work-from-home arrangement is expected to continue until the end of March.

After that, the company may review the situation and decide whether employees should return to the office or continue working remotely.

If LPG supply conditions improve, many companies are likely to resume normal office operations soon.
