Even though some of this data is 3–4 years old, it is still accurate enough to be misused. Criminals can use it for:

Identity theft

Fake KYC verifications

Loan fraud

SIM card cloning

Creating fake social media accounts

Harassing or targeting individuals and their families

How to Protect Yourself From Data Misuse

You can reduce the risks of such data leaks by following a few simple precautions:

Lock your Aadhaar number by visiting the UIDAI website. This prevents anyone from verifying your Aadhaar without your permission.

Ignore and report any suspicious OTPs or SIM porting requests that you didn’t initiate.

Verify the authenticity of fintech apps or websites before uploading your personal documents.

If you notice anything unusual or suspect misuse of your data, call 1930 or file a complaint at cybercrime.gov.in.

Taking these small steps can go a long way in protecting your privacy and preventing fraud.
