WhatsApp Update: If you’re still using an old iPhone, it might be time to upgrade.
If you rely on an older iPhone and use WhatsApp daily, you need to be alert. WhatsApp, the most popular messaging app, will soon stop working on older iPhones.
Meta, the company behind WhatsApp, has announced that the app will no longer support iPhones running iOS versions below 15.1.
This means WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business will stop working on models like iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6 Plus starting May 5, 2025.
These older phones cannot update beyond iOS 12.5.7, so even if users want to update, they won’t be able to.
If you want to keep using WhatsApp, you should start planning to switch to a newer phone now, or you may lose access to the app.
WhatsApp Will Stop Working on These iPhones
Starting May 5, 2025, WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business will no longer support iOS versions below 15.1.
That means the app will completely stop working on devices like the iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6 Plus.
Since these phones can’t be updated beyond iOS 12.5.7, users won’t be able to use WhatsApp anymore on them.
What Happens If You Don’t Update?
As per a WABetaInfo report, users running older iOS versions are being asked to update their phones if they want to keep using WhatsApp.
However, iPhone 5s, 6, and 6 Plus users can’t update to newer iOS versions, so the only option for them is to buy a new phone.
Why Was This Change Made?
Older iOS versions have security and performance issues. WhatsApp is dropping support for devices with outdated systems to offer users a more secure and better experience.
New Features for iPhone Users
While support is ending for older phones, newer iPhone users are getting some exciting features:
You can now set WhatsApp as the default app for calling and messaging.
Video calls now include fun features like AR effects, background changes, and filters.
With custom chat filters, it’s easier to find and focus on important conversations.
How Many People Will Be Affected?
The iPhone 5s and iPhone 6 series are nearly 10 years old, so not many people still use them.
But if you’re one of those who rely on these older models, it’s a good time to start thinking about buying a new device.
