WhatsApp is launching a new setting to enhance user protection against cyberattacks.
This feature will lock several app functions to stop hackers from accessing personal information. Currently, it has been spotted in the beta version for Android.
The update will also limit the number of messages from unknown numbers, helping users avoid spam and unwanted messages.
What is the Strict Account Settings Mode?
The new feature is called Strict Account Settings Mode. WhatsApp is still developing it, so it may take some time before it becomes available to everyone.
With this mode, users can apply all security settings with a single toggle, without needing to adjust individual privacy options.
Once activated, the feature will also hide the user’s IP address, preventing others from tracking their location.
Extra Protection from Unknown Contacts
When Strict Account Settings Mode is enabled, files, photos, and videos from unknown numbers will not download automatically.
This helps prevent malware from being installed on the device. Users will still be able to receive only text messages from such numbers,
and WhatsApp is considering disabling link previews as an extra safety measure.
Additionally, calls from unknown numbers will be muted, protecting users from spam, scam calls, and zero-click attacks.
Personal information like profile photos, status, and last seen will remain hidden from anyone who isn’t in the user’s contact list.
With just one toggle, users will get complete privacy and security control in their WhatsApp accounts.
