With this feature, users can translate messages received in channel updates, group chats, and one-to-one conversations.

WhatsApp assures that user privacy will be fully protected—the entire translation process happens on the user’s device, and even WhatsApp itself cannot see the messages.

WhatsApp stated that this feature aims to help people connect and communicate better by bridging language barriers. Users are encouraged to update their app to start using it.

How to Use and Supported Languages

Using the translate feature is simple. To translate a message, long-press it to bring up the translate option. Users can then select their preferred language.

The first time a language is used, it will need to be downloaded. This feature will be gradually rolled out to over 3 billion users worldwide.

Initially, on Android, it will support English, Spanish, Hindi, Portuguese, Russian, and Arabic. On iPhones, 19 languages will be supported.

Android users will also get an extra option to enable automatic translation in any chat, so all incoming messages in that chat will be translated automatically without needing manual translation.
