WhatsApp has finally added the much-awaited document scanning feature for Android users.
Until now, this feature was only available to iPhone users, but it has now started rolling out for Android through the beta version. Currently, it is available only to select beta testers.
No Need for Extra Apps Anymore
With this new feature, users no longer need to install third-party apps to scan documents.
WhatsApp now allows users to scan documents directly using the camera, convert them into PDF format,
and send them to contacts right from the app. This makes the whole process much faster and more convenient.
How to Use the New Feature
This feature was first spotted in WhatsApp Beta for Android version 2.25.18.29 but was not active at that time.
Now, it is slowly being rolled out for beta users. Many users have noticed it becoming available after updating to the latest version.
To use it, tap on the attachment icon in a WhatsApp chat. Along with options like “Browse Documents” and “Choose from Gallery,” you will now see a new option called “Scan Document.” Tapping it will open your phone’s camera, allowing you to take a picture of the document and send it right away.
Manual and Automatic Scanning Modes
WhatsApp has also added two scanning modes: Manual and Automatic.
In Manual Mode, users can select the area they want to scan.
In Automatic Mode, WhatsApp automatically detects the document’s edges and scans it, giving quick and accurate results.
AI-Powered Chat Summary Also Released
In addition to document scanning, WhatsApp has recently launched a new AI-based chat summary feature.
This tool creates a bullet-point summary of any personal chat and highlights the main topics—without needing to open the full conversation.
