WhatsApp Feature: Mention Contacts in Status Updates

WhatsApp, owned by Meta, is testing a new feature similar to Instagram Stories.

Users will soon be able to mention contacts in their WhatsApp status updates. This feature is currently available to a select group of testers.

Details on the Mention Feature

According to WABetaInfo, a site that tracks WhatsApp updates, the new feature allows users to mention friends and other contacts in their status updates.

In the latest beta version for Android (2.24.20.3), users will see a “Mention” option in the status update caption bar.

After selecting this option, they can choose someone from their contact list to mention. The name of the mentioned contact will appear below the status update.

Once a status update with mentions is published, the mentioned contacts will receive a notification and a message similar to what Instagram users get when mentioned.

AI Voice Interaction

In addition to the new mention feature, WhatsApp will soon offer an AI voice feature. Users will be able to interact with the Meta AI chatbot using voice commands.

This feature will also allow users to select their preferred voice for Meta AI, making interactions more personalized.
