Western Railway Changes Tatkal Rules for Shatabdi Express

Indian Railways frequently updates its rules, and this time Western Railway has made an important change specifically for the Mumbai Central–Ahmedabad Shatabdi Express.

An official notification has already been issued to inform passengers about this update.

At the same time, people in cities like Noida and Patna have received some relief as fuel prices have dropped.

What Exactly Has Changed?

Western Railway has introduced OTP verification for Tatkal ticket booking.

This new system will be active from December 1, 2025.

From this date, Tatkal tickets for the Mumbai Central–Ahmedabad Shatabdi Express will be issued only after passengers complete OTP authentication.

The railway department announced that this step aims to make Tatkal booking more transparent and smoother for travelers.

Right now, this update applies only to this one Shatabdi train.

However, it may be expanded to more trains in the future.

When Will the New System Start?

The OTP rule will come into effect on December 1, 2025 across all booking platforms.

This includes:

Computerized PRS counters

Authorized travel agents

IRCTC website

IRCTC mobile app

Passengers will have to enter the OTP correctly to confirm their Tatkal ticket.
