Vodafone Idea (Vi) has announced a hike in its 5G prepaid plan prices.
This move is part of the company’s strategy to improve its financial health and support the expansion of its 5G network.
Currently, Vi’s base 5G plan starts at ₹299, but prices are expected to go up soon.
This decision follows similar tariff hikes by Jio and Airtel, who have already made their 5G plans more expensive.
Why Vi Is Increasing Tariffs
Vi last revised its tariffs in 2022. Since then, India’s telecom industry has had one of the lowest average revenues per user (ARPU) in the world.
Vi’s CEO mentioned that this price hike will help attract more investment in the telecom sector and improve returns.
According to the company, charging higher rates for 5G is necessary to fund network expansion and meet the growing demand for data.
How It Affects Users
The price increase may disappoint users who were hoping for affordable 5G services. Like Jio and Airtel, Vi is positioning its 5G offerings in the premium category.
As a result, customers might need to pay more to enjoy higher-speed internet.
What You Get in Vi’s ₹299 Plan
Vi’s most affordable 5G plan currently costs ₹299 and is valid for 28 days. It includes:
1 GB of high-speed data per day
Unlimited local and STD calling across all networks
100 SMS per day
After you use up your daily data, internet speed drops to 64 kbps.
