Vodafone Idea launches AI-Based Security Program

If you are troubled by spam or fraudulent calls, Vodafone Idea (Vi) has introduced a solution called Vi Protect.

This AI-powered program, announced at the India Mobile Congress 2025 (IMC 2025), is designed to strengthen protection against spam, scams, and cyberattacks.

The Vi Protect platform serves individual consumers, network users, and enterprises under one system. It combines two main AI systems:

AI-based Voice Spam Detection – to spot and flag scam calls in real time.

AI-driven Cyber Defense and Incident Response – to secure Vi’s network and enterprise systems against cyber threats.

How Vi’s Voice Spam Detection Works

The Voice Spam Detection System uses AI models, web crawlers, and customer feedback to detect suspicious calls instantly.

When a Vi user gets a call from an unknown number, the system displays a “Suspected Spam” alert on the screen, helping users decide whether to answer.

Unlike third-party caller ID apps, this feature is built directly into Vi’s network.

This system not only identifies spam calls but also flags fraudulent text messages.

It also comes with an international calling display so that users can clearly distinguish between genuine and fake international calls.

In addition, Vi’s threat analysis system is connected to DNS, SMS, and Voice Gateways. It keeps monitoring and analyzing threat patterns to detect possible risks.

Vi’s AI-Powered Cyber Defense System

As part of Vi Protect, the company has also launched an advanced cyber defense and incident response system.

This system uses Agentic and Generative AI models to detect, analyze, and neutralize cyber threats within one hour.

To ensure accuracy, the system is designed to reduce false positives. It uses a multi-layered defense process, which includes:

anomaly detection

contextualization

categorization

interface engine agent

suggestive intelligence

human validation

Vi plans to extend this AI-powered security system to its enterprise clients, providing them with the same high-level protection.

Future Plans and Achievements

So far, Vi reports that its security systems have flagged over 600 million spam and scam calls and messages.

The company also plans to launch a real-time URL protection feature that will scan and block dangerous links to prevent phishing and malware attacks.
