US President Donald Trump has announced a special offer for illegal immigrants living in the United States.
Under this offer, any illegal immigrant who voluntarily leaves the US by the end of this year will receive $3,000 (around ₹2.5 lakh). Along with the cash amount, the government will also provide a free flight ticket to their home country.
How to Avail the Offer
To take advantage of this scheme, illegal immigrants must register on the CBP Home mobile app. This announcement was made by the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
Those who sign up on the app and agree to deport themselves before December 31 will receive:
A cash stipend of $3,000
Free flight tickets
A waiver of any civil fines or penalties for overstaying in the US
Increase in Incentive Amount
Earlier, the US government was offering $1,000 to illegal immigrants who voluntarily left the country. However, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced that this amount has now been tripled to $3,000.
She explained that the higher payment is meant to encourage more people to leave the US voluntarily, especially during the holiday season.
Large Number of Voluntary Departures
According to Secretary Noem, around 1.9 million illegal immigrants have voluntarily left the US since January 2025. Thousands of people have already used the CBP Home program to return to their home countries.
Offer Valid Only Till Year-End
The government clarified that this offer is temporary and will only be available until the end of the year.
During the Christmas season, US taxpayers are effectively tripling the incentive to encourage voluntary departures. The government described this as an “exit bonus”, which will not be extended beyond December 31.
Warning for Those Who Refuse
Secretary Noem also issued a strict warning. She said that illegal immigrants who do not accept this offer will be tracked down, arrested, and forcibly deported. She added that such individuals will never be allowed to return to the United States.
Government Aims to Save 70 Percent of Costs
The US government expects to save around 70 percent through this voluntary deportation program.
Currently, the average cost of arresting, detaining, and deporting an illegal immigrant is $17,121, which is much higher than the incentive being offered.
About the CBP Home App and Deportation Targets
The CBP Home app, earlier known as CBP One, was launched during the Biden administration and later rebranded under President Donald Trump.
The Trump administration initially aimed to deport 1 million undocumented immigrants every year.
However, according to US agencies and media reports, only 261,000 to 622,000 people have been deported so far this year.
