Making UPI payments has become very common today.

But sometimes, in a hurry, people send money to the wrong number.

This mistake usually happens when we don’t double-check the details before entering the UPI PIN.

By the time we realize it, the money is already gone.

If this has happened to you, don’t panic.

There are ways to report it and improve your chances of getting your money back.

First Step: Report Immediately

As per guidelines by the Reserve Bank of India, you should act quickly after a wrong UPI transaction.

Once you enter your UPI PIN, the payment cannot be canceled.

So, time is very important here.

You should:

Try contacting the person who received the money and request a refund

If that doesn’t work, report the issue immediately

You can file a complaint with National Payments Corporation of India, which manages UPI services.

How to File a Complaint

You can register your complaint easily through these methods:

Call the NPCI toll-free number: 1800-120-1740

Visit your bank branch and submit a written complaint

If the bank does not respond properly, you can complain to the RBI through its official website

Quick action increases the chances of recovering your money.

Don’t Forget This Important Detail

Always keep your transaction ID (or reference number) safe.

This number is usually mentioned in the payment confirmation message.

It is very important when filing a complaint.

As per RBI rules, banks are expected to review such complaints and process refunds within 48 hours, depending on the case.

What You Should Remember

Mistakes can happen, especially during quick payments.

But staying alert can save you trouble.

Before sending money:

Always double-check the number or UPI ID

Take a moment before entering your PIN

And if something goes wrong, act fast. The sooner you report it, the better your chances of getting your money back.
