The Union Budget for the financial year 2026–27 will be presented on February 1, 2026, even though the day falls on a Sunday.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the budget as scheduled. This has been officially confirmed by the central government.

Stock Markets to Remain Open on Sunday

Despite it being a Sunday, trading will take place on both the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).

The NSE informed investors through a circular that live trading sessions will be conducted as per normal timings because of the Budget.

Pre-open market: 9:00 AM to 9:08 AM

Normal trading: 9:15 AM to 3:30 PM

Similarly, the BSE has also declared February 1 as a “special trading day” and confirmed that markets will remain open during regular hours.

This will allow investors to respond immediately to policy announcements made in the budget.

Budget Dates Officially Confirmed

The central government has clarified that there will be no change in the budget date, putting an end to all speculation.

The Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs (CCPA) has approved all important dates for the budget session. The proposed schedule is as follows:

January 28: President’s address to a joint session of Parliament

January 29: Economic Survey to be presented in Parliament

February 1 (Sunday): Union Budget 2026 to be presented

Nirmala Sitharaman to Present Her Ninth Budget

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is expected to present her ninth budget on this occasion. So far, she has presented two interim budgets and six full budgets.

With this budget, she will surpass Pranab Mukherjee’s record and match P. Chidambaram’s record of presenting the budget nine times.

A Historic Budget Day

This budget is considered historic because, for the first time in many years, the Union Budget will be presented on a Sunday.

Due to this unique timing and its economic impact, the budget holds special importance from both political and economic perspectives.
