To make identity verification safer and more private, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has introduced the Aadhaar Paperless Offline e-KYC feature.
With this facility, you can prove your identity without revealing your Aadhaar number or biometric details like fingerprints or iris scans.
The best part? It’s secure, voluntary, and completely offline, which means you don’t even need an internet connection once you’ve downloaded your file.
How to Download Aadhaar Paperless Offline e-KYC
Downloading your Aadhaar e-KYC is simple and takes just a few minutes.
Go to the UIDAI website or open the mAadhaar app.
Enter your Aadhaar Number or Virtual ID (VID) and the security code shown on the screen.
Click Send OTP and type the OTP received on your registered mobile number.
Create a Share Code (a password) to secure your file.
Click Download to get a digitally signed XML file in ZIP format.
This file is protected by the Share Code you created, ensuring that only you or authorized people can access it.
How to Share Your Aadhaar e-KYC Safely
Once you’ve downloaded your e-KYC file, you can share it in two formats:
Digital (XML/PDF): Ideal for online verification or when high-quality records are needed.
Printed (QR Code): Useful if you need to provide a physical document.
To share, send the ZIP file along with your Share Code to the service provider.
They can unlock the file using the code and verify your details, all digitally signed by UIDAI.
Important Privacy Points to Remember
Your Aadhaar number is never shared — only a unique Reference ID is shown.
UIDAI’s digital signature ensures the data can’t be tampered with.
No biometric details are needed at any step.
The process is completely voluntary, and no one can access your data without your consent.
Under the Aadhaar Act 2016, sharing your e-KYC file or Share Code with a third party without permission is a punishable offense.
What Information Is Included?
Your e-KYC XML file includes:
Your name, address, gender, and date of birth
A Reference ID with the last four digits of your Aadhaar number
Securely encrypted details of your mobile number and email ID
Your Aadhaar photo
This new facility by UIDAI is a big step toward making digital identity verification safer, simpler, and more private for everyone.
