Uber India Introduces New Features for Drivers

On November 14, 2024, Uber India launched several in-app features aimed at enhancing the safety and convenience of its drivers.

These include SOS integration with the police for emergencies, helmet verification for two-wheeler drivers,

and a Women Rider Priority feature for female drivers. These updates reflect Uber’s focus on improving driver safety and user experience.

Uber’s Journey in India

Uber began operations in India in 2013 and now collaborates with over 10 lakh drivers across the country.

India is Uber’s second-largest driver market globally, according to Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi.

The platform serves 1.7 crore monthly active users in India and operates in 125 cities.

Uber driver partners complete over 8.1 crore trips every month, showcasing the platform’s vast reach and activity.

Enhanced Safety Features

Uber has introduced a feature enabling drivers to share their live trip location and key details with local police during emergencies.

This is currently available in Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, and Maharashtra and will soon expand to other states, including Delhi.

To ensure the safety of women drivers, the app now includes a Women Rider Priority option.

Female drivers can prioritize female passengers, particularly for nighttime trips. This feature has already completed over 21,000 trips and is active in major cities.

Helmet Verification and Audio Recording

For two-wheeler drivers, Uber has implemented a helmet verification feature. Drivers must take a real-time selfie wearing a helmet before they can accept trips.

This feature will soon be rolled out across all cities.

An audio recording feature has also been introduced for both drivers and riders. Designed for safety, the recordings are fully encrypted and stored only on the driver’s device.

Instant Earnings and In-App Tipping

To support drivers financially, Uber has launched an in-app tipping system, allowing riders to reward drivers for quick pickups during peak hours.

Additionally, Uber now offers instant earnings withdrawal via UPI. Drivers can transfer their earnings from the wallet section within five seconds, up to four times a day.

These updates underscore Uber’s commitment to improving the experience for its driver partners and ensuring their safety and convenience.
