The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has temporarily stopped issuing tourist and work visas to citizens of nine African and Asian countries, according to a Times of India report.
This visa ban will start in 2026 and reflects growing concerns over security, health, and migration.
However, the UAE government has not officially confirmed this through its immigration office. Interestingly, the list also includes two countries that neighbor India.
From 2026 onward, citizens of these nine countries will not be able to apply for tourist visas or work permits in the UAE.
The ban will stay in effect until further notice, and no timeline has been provided for review or cancellation.
Importantly, this is a visa ban, not a travel ban. Those who already have valid UAE visas will not be affected and can continue to live and work in the country legally.
Countries Affected by the Temporary Visa Ban
Afghanistan
Libya
Yemen
Somalia
Lebanon
Bangladesh
Cameroon
Sudan
Uganda
Reasons Behind the Visa Ban
Although the UAE has not officially explained the decision, analysts suggest several reasons:
National Security: The UAE has previously taken similar steps to address security concerns.
Diplomatic Relations: Tense or complex relations with some of the affected countries may play a role.
Immigration Reforms: The UAE is working on improving its visa system by streamlining documentation, enhancing identity verification, and digitizing the process to reduce paperwork errors and prevent identity fraud.
